The RSCDS Archive has accumulated over many years and
comprises books of dances and music, books and articles relating to the history
of Scottish country dancing, including Minute Books of the RSCDS since its founding
in 1923, letters, leaflets photographs, newspaper cuttings, recorded music on
record, cassette and CD, videos and increasingly DVDs and various other items –
there are well over 2,000 items in all.
The archive is in the basement of RSCDS headquarters in
Edinburgh. RSCDS members, researchers
and members of the public may view the archive by appointment only. Regrettably it is not possible to ‘browse’ or
borrow material. For more information
Many of the items are also held in other archives and
libraries across the world and it may be more practical to access these
locally. Nevertheless most of the
records relating to the Scottish Country Dance Society and The Royal Scottish
Country Dance Society are only available at HQ in Edinburgh.
The Catalogue is available online as a PDF file (click on the
link at the bottom of this article). To view you will need Adobe Reader ® or an

with the F1 key. For other readers, refer to the help information provided.
Some pages have additional information attached – this is
accessed via a link (to be introduced soon).
You are welcome to download, copy, and print any part of the
catalogue but remember that this is a very large file which is not for printing
in full. If you plan to re-publish sections of the catalogue, please recognise
RSCDS as the source.
Finally, the catalogue is “work in progress” and will be
updated at intervals. Your comments are invaluable to us in steering future
development and we hope you will use the response link (
