UK Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a way of donating money to a registered UK charity such as the RSCDS. It enables the charity to gain extra income in the form of a tax rebate, calculated on the amount of the initial donation at the standard rate of income tax.

Via a simple form, UK tax payers can donate to a charity and for every £1 donated the charity concerned can reclaim 28p from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs ( aka Inland Revenue). As one can see this is a substantial help and thus any aspiring donor is strongly encouraged to use this form of financial support.  The sole criteria is that the donor pays UK taxes (income and capital gains) equivalent to the amount reclaimed by the charity, but rest assured once the form is signed and provided to the charity, the donor has no more documentation or work to complete, everything is then handled by us.

An extra benefit is that if a taxpayer pays tax at a higher rate, he/she can claim for themself additional tax relief when filling out their annual tax return. In other words a win-win low-cost approach to charitable giving.

Since the standard rate of UK income tax has changed (starting April 6, 2008) the amount of the tax that can be reclaimed should have fallen from 28p to 25p in the pound. However a recent government concession allows us to reclaim the same 28 pence in the pound for an interim period.  Donations therefore still give us a 28% bounus !

Donations can be 'general', applicable for any purposes within the Society's objectives, or 'specific' if you want to encourage some particular aspect of our work which interests you. However in the latter case please be careful how you phrase your request so that we fully understand what you want.  If you have any doubt please consult a Trustee or the Secretary of the Society.  You can also address any queries to '"treasurer" at the usual domain (rscds.org) in complete confidence.

Donations can be annonymous, all you need to do is tell the Secretary and we will keep your name and amount confidential.

And once again, any donations (via UK cheques, a bank transfer or most credit/debit cards) which enable us to continue to spread the knowledge and enjoyment of Scottish country dancing, to this and future generations, are highly appreciated.
