Peter Knight
Peter Knight was awarded a scroll at the 2001 RSCDS AGM, nominated by the Publications and Research Committee. Here is the citation which accompanied the presentation.
Peter joined the Society in 1971 and gained his teaching certificate in 1982. He has taught at the Royal Tunbridge Wells Branch, at the Hurlington Club in London, and this season London Branch has asked him to take a class of popular dances. He started the "Little Ship Club" in 1972 and another social group in Dulwich in the late 1970's.
Peter has served on the Publications & Research Committee over a number of years. A book of reels for use at Highland balls and weddings was first suggested by the Committee in 1994. Peter approached Harper Collins regarding the copyright of drawings used in "101" and was told that they were doing market research for a book on SCD, including a section on ceilidh dancing. The result was Peter's co-authorship of the Collins book, published in 1996, which has been a very successful publication, bringing the Society to the fore on every airport and station bookstall.
In 1997, HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother graciously accepted a copy of the book. During its year of publication, the book was in the top ten new books in Scotland, and to date over 19,000 copies have been sold, including 4,000 overseas.
