Jim and Phyllis South
Jim and Phyllis South were awarded a scroll at the 2002 RSCDS AGM, nominated by Queensland Branch. Here is the citation which accompanied the presentation.
Before the Queensland Branch was formed, weekend schools commenced for Queensland Dancers as the brainchild of Jim & Phyllis.
Prior to setting up the Branch and to encouraging others to take their teaching certificates, Phyllis took monthly classes from 1976-1978. The end result was very positive and enabled Queensland to form a Branch.
Phyllis makes herself available to any class, group or body who have a need of her expertise. She has been the class teacher at the Milton Club for 38 years and frequently 'fills in' for classes in need where teachers are sick or on holiday.
Jim has been a Milton club teacher for 25 years, he also has taken beginners classes for many years where new people are introduced to SCD and are raised to a proficiency level where they can take their place in a general class with comfort.
Jim and Phyllis actively promote membership of the Society at every opportunity.
