Elma McCausland
Elma started Scottish Country Dancing at an Aberdeen Branch children's class, competing at festivals in school and Guide teams. In 1951 she joined the Society and continued dancing in teams at festivals and on television, representing Scotland at international level. She became a Society teacher in 1956 and since then has been teaching Scottish Country Dancing at all levels, training demonstration and festival teams, tutoring certificated classes as well as teaching ladies step dancing. She has conducted day and week-end schools from Elementary to Master class levels throughout the world and has been Depute Director of Summer School.
Elma teaches weekly classes for Primary schoolchildren, for
teenagers and for adults in her home town of Bangor. She has run
in-service courses for Primary School teachers for the Belfast Education
Committee and she is currently teaching a certificate class for the Belfast
Branch. She has served on the Belfast Branch Committee the Co-ordinating
Committee for Northern Ireland and represented Sydney, Australia on the
Executive Council.
Elma was the first tutor of the Teaching Skills Course and she has conducted examinations for the Society across five continents. As well as being a former Convenor of the Examinations Committee, Elma is currently a member of the Education & Training Committee.
Throughout, she has always striven to uphold the traditions, and maintain the standards of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.
