Georgina Finlay

Georgina Finlay

Georgina gained her teaching certificate in 1959 when her examiner was Miss Milligan. In 1960 she started a children's class in Weston, which has continued uninterrupted to the present. As the first of these children reached their teens, she started a Young Adults group and this group also continues to flourish.

From the Young Adults group came a wonderful demonstration team known as the Finlay Dancers. In addition to entertaining in hospitals, senior citizen homes and at Scottish festivals, they have appeared on television several times. Since 1989, Georgina has taken the Finlay Dancers to workshops in Florida when they also danced at Disney World.  On 5 occasions Georgina arranged for members of her Young Adult group to attend Summer School in St Andrews and, with her encouragement, 10 of them have worked for their teaching certificates.

Thirty years ago Georgina started an adult class in Weston and has encouraged new teachers to teach this class. She has been teaching a local social group since 1987.

Georgina has been a guest teacher at over 50 weekends, workshops and week-long schools throughout North America, from Newfoundland to Victoria in Canada, and from Boston to San Francisco in the US.

Georgina's life has truly been dedicated to Scottish country dancing.
