Avis Harrison
Avis started Scottish Country Dancing in the early 1960’s and joined the RSCDS shortly afterwards. She attended her first Summer School in 1964 and subsequently took her Teaching Certificate in 1968. Since then, she has only missed two Summer Schools!
In 1987 Avis was invited to join the staff to teach at Summer School and over the years she has taught a wide range of classes at every level.
For many years Avis has taught a variety of classes for the Leeds Branch of the Society. This has included the advanced class and working with and preparing teams for exchange visits abroad.
Avis also taught at two southern hemisphere Winter Schools at Ballarat in 1998 and Sydney in 2004 and also taught in the USA, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. She has also been a popular teacher at day schools including one held in London, Liverpool, Sheffield and North West Craven. Avis has for over 40 years run a successful independent Scottish Country Dance class in Leeds.
It can be said that in her many classes which have often included dancers of all levels of ability, Avis has always tried to ensure that all make progress in a happy and purposeful atmosphere.
