Richard Turnbull
In 2005 Richard Turnbull retired from his position as Convenor of the General Purposes & Finance Committee and Treasurer of the RSCDS, having been involved with the management of the Society for 25 years and having presented the Annual Accounts at Society AGM’s a total of eight times.
Richard joined the Duns & District Branch in 1957 and since 1969 has danced with the Richmond Branch in North Yorkshire. He served on the Executive Council from 1981; for 12 of those years as a member of the Finance Committee.
In 1991 Richard presented the Annual accounts with less than six days' notice due to the illness of the Convenor James Taylor. He was subsequently convenor of the old Finance Committee for two separate periods. He has managed over the years to present the Annual Accounts in a format readily understood even by those professing no acquaintance with balance sheets.
After considerable persuasion Richard agreed to stand as Convenor of the new General Purposes & Finance Committee. Three very busy years followed with some major financial problems to solve, not least being VAT issues where Richard’s persistence eventually paid off.
Richard has devoted an enormous amount of his time and effort over many years to looking after the Society’s coffers and ensuring that the RSCDS remains financially healthy. His integrity and, not least, his good humour, have been much appreciated by those who have worked with him.
