Fiona Turnbull
Born here in Perth, Fiona has been an enthusiastic
Scottish Country dancer since the age of 10.
Joining the Society in 1965 in Duns she moved to Richmond and has taught classes there since
1975 and been Branch Secretary (3 times), Treasurer and Chairman (twice).
Fiona teaches at Summer School and in Europe, USA, and Canada teaching dancers aged from five to over eighty at every level from beginners to Teachers.
She is also a busy Medal Test Assessor.
Fiona was a founder member of The Young Scottish Dancers Association, the group which organised ‘Dance Scottish UK’ and ‘Dance Scottish Worldwide’. In 1999 she was elected as the Society’s first Youth Director, a post she held for four years. During that period she was responsible for a number of initiatives to promote dancing for young people. Fiona produced the successful ‘Dance Scottish’ Pack for schools; writing all the material and directing the filming. She also prepared the Medal Test Scheme and edited an annual Youth Newsletter. With a committee of young dancers she organised the first Spring Fling in Stirling in 2002.
Fiona has been a very hardworking and
devoted member of the Society for over 40 years giving very generously of her
time and expertise at local, national and international levels.
