Christine Traynor

Christine Traynor

Christine began her Scottish country dancing career at the age of five, and has been involved continuously since then.

She joined the Glasgow Branch of the Society in 1964, and the Demonstration Group in the early 1970s. Later she successfully gained her Teachers' Certificate. Christine then taught several Branch classes and, in due course, became a teacher at Summer School.  In her home town Christine instigated the Scottish country dance section in the Johnstone Festival.  She was also involved in establishing the first Glasgow Branch Scottish country dance Festival for children in 1987.

As Christine's experience and reputation grew, she became a popular teacher at Day and Weekend Schools throughout the country. She became a Branch representative on the RSCDS Executive Council, a Headquarters Committee member, an Adjudicator and Summer School Deputy Director. She also served on Glasgow Branch Committee in a variety of posts, including Secretary and Chairman.

Christine has a formidable talent for verse-speaking.  She will be remembered at Summer School for her light-hearted ditties and homilies on a variety of subjects. Her keen wit readily encapsulates the idiosyncracies of Scottish country dancers in a way that all can recognise and appreciate.

Christine Traynor is awarded a Scroll for her sustained and outstanding contribution to Scottish country dancing in so many of its aspects.
