Dorothy Wilson
Dorothy started Scottish Country Dancing in the UK and moved to New Zealand in 1958. Settling in Marlborough, she joined the Blenheim Club and founded the Picton Club. Over the years she has taught at both these clubs and also held different administrative positions, being made a Life Member of the Blenheim Cub in 1984.
Since she gained her Teacher’s Certificate in 1967, Dorothy has taught at numerous day and weekend schools around the country, and also at New Zealand Branch Summer Schools and Australian Winter Schools. In 1989 she organised the first New Zealand Branch Winter School in Blenheim.
Dorothy has held the positions of both president and secretary for the Nelson/ Marlborough region, and was their Regional Representative to the then New Zealand Branch Council for many years. In 1994-95 she served as South Island Vice President, and was New Zealand Branch President in 1996-97.
In 1985 Dorothy took over the New Zealand Branch Recordshop, which she still runs, her extensive knowledge of Scottish country dance music being of great assistance to her customers.
Dorothy has been a regular attendee at New Zealand Branch Summer Schools, Australian Winter Schools, and Royal Scottish Country Dance Society Schools at St Andrews, as well as taking the Recordshop to most Region Schools within the New Zealand Branch.
Her knowledge and expertise as a dancer, teacher and administrator in Branch and Society matters have made Dorothy invaluable to the New Zealand Branch, by whom she is held in very high regard
