Ruth Jappy

For over 40 years, Ruth Jappy has supported, fostered and enlivened Scottish Country Dancing in Canada.  She began dancing in Scarborough, Ontario, and was deeply involved in the Toronto area dancing community to the extent that she and is still remembered there for her lively personality and her organizational skills.

In 1978, Ruth and her husband Alex moved to Delta, which is a suburb of Vancouver in British Columbia. She soon gained her RSCDS Teachers Certificate, and since that time has taught at the Delta Borderers club that continues to thrive under her leadership.

Ruth’s dancing is beautiful and appears effortless, but she is best known as an inspired and inspirational teacher. She has taught at major workshops in Japan, Australia, and all over North America; always encouraging dancers to strive for the highest personal standards.  She is ever ready to help dancers of any level, and to act as a mentor for less experienced teachers.

Ruth has received a Vancouver Branch Award for her constant support of that Branch, and it is a fitting tribute to her loyalty and service to the RSCDS that she is presented with the Society’s Scroll of Honour.
