A group of young, enthusiastic dancers and musicians, representing the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, have been flying the flag for Scotland at the recent Festival Interceltique in Lorient, France.

The annual Festival in Brittany is Europe’s largest celebration of all things Celtic, and this year the focus country was Scotland.

At the invitation of Visit Scotland and The Scottish Executive, the RSCDS team performed a specially commissioned dance at the official opening of the Scottish Pavilion by Linda Fabiani, Scotland’s Minister for Culture. The dance, A Trip to Lorient, was devised by Ian Brockbank with newly composed music by George Meikle

During their visit, the team put on afternoon workshops, demonstrated various dances and invited members of the audience onto the floor. Festival participants were also introduced to another dance by Ian Brockbank - Festival Interceltique – a social mixer which went down well with all levels of dancer.
