Winter School 2008

RSCDS Winter School is held annually in Pitlochry in late February. The Co-ordinator of Winter School 2008 is Johan MacLean

[The Atholl Palace Hotel]

GENERAL

The Winter School in the year of 2008 will be held in the Atholl Palace Hotel, Pitlochry, Perthshire. The School is open to members of the Society over the age of 16, on a residential basis only. Residents are accepted on a half-board basis (breakfast and evening meal) in the Hotel. Lunch may be purchased in the Hotel, if wished.

The application should be completed and returned to Headquarters, by Friday 20th July 2007 together with your deposit of £50.00 (whch is non-refundable)

ACCOMMODATION

Please note, when you are completing the application form, that the accommodation offered in the hotel is based on shared accommodation only with either twin beds or double bed, or in a family room, sleeping three. Please indicate with whom you wish to share. If you do not do so the hotel will allocate rooms automatically. There is a very limited number of single occupancy rooms and a supplement will apply.

FEES

The cost of Winter School will be £370.00 to include dinner, bed and breakfast, course fees, transfer (by bus) and ticket for Blair Castle. If you are accepted onto the course payment should be forwarded to Headquarters, to arrive by 30th November 2007 and may be made by cheque (£ sterling) or credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Access, Eurocard, Delta, Maestro.

CLASSES

There will be Scottish country dance classes on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There will be classes every morning from 9.30am - 11.00am and from 11.30am - 12.30pm, and one class on Sunday from 10.30 - 12.00.  There will be optional activities in the afternoons. There will be no classes/activities on the Monday afternoon as there will be a ball in Blair Castle in the evening.

SOCIAL DANCING

There is social dancing each evening from 8.30pm - 10pm.  The first social dance will be on the Thursday evening (21 February) after dinner.  There will be a ball in Blair Castle on the Monday evening (25 February) from 8.30pm - 11.00pm and the cost of this is included in your fee.  Dress for the Ball is formal.

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS

Please notify Headquarters if you have any special dietary requirements.

BOOKLET

A booklet detailing the classes, teachers, musicians, evening dance programmes and any additional events will be provided upon receipt of the balance of your fee.

SHOP

The shop will be open on Friday, Saturday and Monday from 2-4pm. Because of restricted space our shop stock will be limited and unfortunately we will not therefore be able to fill branch orders during Winter School, although we will of course forward your order to Headquarters for completion.

REGISTRATION

Your room will be available from 2pm on Thursday, 21 February, and guests should aim to arrive in time to attend the evening dinner. Guests must vacate their rooms after breakfast on Tuesday 26 February and return their keys to the hotel desk.

APPLICATION FORM

If you wish to be sent an Application Form for Winter School 2008, please send a stamped addressed envelope to HQ to arrive by the end of May, 2007.  Application Forms will be posted as follows: [i] to all overseas addresses excluding Europe - Monday 18th June; [ii] to all addresses in Europe and the UK  - Friday, 22nd June.  Application forms will also be available to download from the RSCDS website on Monday, 25th June (from noon UK time).  Applications will close on Friday, 20th July, but will not be processed until September.  However, receipt of your application form and deposit will be acknowledged.

 If your application is unsuccessful, you may choose to be placed on the waiting-list.  (Please note that applications will be handled at Headquarters only.)
