Introduction |
|
|
Continuing Development is an essential part of any dancer's training and the
RSCDS is committed to helping its members with their personal
development.
Tools and ideas are listed here for dancers, potential teachers and
qualified
teachers.

Continuing Development |
|
|
The Continuing Development Record provides a way of documenting this learning. It
builds upon the reflective approach of Unit 4 of the Teaching
Certificate, encouraging teachers and musicians to identify development
activities and to consider how that learning will benefit them and their
class. Use of the record is entirely optional. It can be used very
flexibly to suit personal styles and needs.
The Scheme
for Developing Experience of Potential Examiners has been devised to
give
teachers with the potential to be examiners opportunities to gain
experience at Summer School - mainly that of tutoring - which they may
not be able to gain locally. The scheme is similar to a
scholarship-award and information will be posted here when the next
round of application open |

Basic Teaching Skills - Unit 0 |
|
|
This
is best described as a course for those who are already leading/teaching, or
about to take on a group, but who do not wish to sit the RSCDS teaching
exams.
Attendance
on the course will result in a “Record of Completion of a course in basic SCD
Teaching skills”.
All
of the elements listed below are useful skills for any teacher. Those seeking to study Unit 0 may not require
all of them in the same depth, so the most relevant can be selected for
delivery, depending on the needs of the course members.

|
|
Helpful hints on preparing for and running a class.
Although thorough preparation and planning form the basis of good
teaching, if time is short a detailed review of the dances you plan to
teach is a vital minimum requirement...

Framework for Introducing SCD to Beginners |
|
|
This framework is intended to be a resource to support those teaching Scottish country dancing to new dancers. It covers the basic formations and steps, allowing for progression through three levels.
The format of the framework is:
- A suggested sequence for teaching steps
- A suggested sequence for teaching formations, in three levels
- A table/grid of RSCDS-published dances which include the listed formations
The framework is not intended as a prescriptive list of steps and formations, but as a guide that can be adapted to suit the needs and ability of the class and local context.
