Examinations for Teaching Certificate Part 2

In order that candidates may have maximum benefit from the written comment in the examiner’s assessment of the Record of Teaching Practice (Unit 4) in advance of sitting the examination for Unit 5, the Education and Training Committee has decided that there will be no pass/fail result for Unit 4 – please see the revised Examination Syllabus (September, 2005) for full details.

As a result, some modifications have been made to the timetable for submitting the Record of Teaching Practice (Unit 4) for assessment.

The new arrangement is that 18 months must elapse between a candidate passing Teaching Certificate Part 1 and submitting the Record of Teaching Practice for assessment.  This will apply to all candidates who will sit the examination for Unit 5 at any date in 2007 and beyond.

In the interim, candidates due to sit the Unit 5 examination at any date in 2006 will be required to submit the Record of Teaching Practice no later than 3 months in advance of the date of the examination for that unit, and are encouraged to submit the Record of Teaching Practice 4 months in advance, if possible, so as to have longer to work on any targets for improvement suggested in the examiner’s assessment.  The aim is that the assessment will be completed and returned to the candidate within a month of submission.

A document, Guidelines for the Preparation of the Record of Teaching Practice, is available from Headquarters. This gives more detailed information, including instructions about translation of the Record of Teaching Practice for any candidate whose first language is not English.
