The Chairman, Chairman Elect, Treasurer and up to 12 Trustees form the Management Board. As directors of the corporate charitable Society it is their responsibility to lead and direct the RSCDS throughout the year. The Board’s directors are responsible for, amongst other things:
- Ensuring compliance with charitable and corporate legislation
- Determining the strategy for the achievement of the charitable objectives
- Preparation of the annual financial statements and trustees report
The Board is supported in its work by a range of committees, panels and working groups with delegated authority:
- Membership Services Committee
- Education & Training Committee
- Youth Services Committee
- Finance and Governance Advisory Panel (FGAP)
- Human Resources Panel

Elections for the Management Board and each Committee are held at our Annual General Meeting during the first weekend of November. Members are encouraged to stand for positions and application forms can be downloaded from our website or obtained by contacting the RSCDS office.
The Office Manager, who works from the RSCDS office, acts as Secretary to the Board. The Board appoints members to key positions within the organisation, for example Schools Director, Music Director, Archivist and Editor of the members’ magazine. These individuals also appropriate delegated powers.
