Education & Training
The Education & Training Committee (E&T) for 2016-17 consists of 9 elected members: Alison Robertson, Elaine Cameron, Ellie Briscoe, Jane McIntosh, Mervyn Short, Pat Houghton, Sue Ronald and Trish Reid; with Jim Stott as Schools Director and Malcolm Brown as Convenor.
The main work of the committee is concerned with all forms of training and examinations, not just the Unit 1-5 exams for teachers, but also the Dancing Achievement Award and Medal Tests. As well as agreeing the syllabus for these examinations, the committee also appoints and trains the examiners and assessors who mark the exams and assess medal test candidates. E&T is also responsible for training festival adjudicators and co-ordinating the delivery of Continuing Professional Development for both teachers in schools and RSCDS trained teachers.
In 2017 the Society is embarking on a major review of the teacher training and examination process, to use modern technology where possible, and to ensure that the syllabus and examination criteria are up to date and relevant to the needs of the members.
The Schools' Director who organises Summer School, is a member of the E&T Committee, and also chaires the Schools' Sub-Committee, comprising the two Depute Directors and the Winter School Co-ordinator, as well as the E&T Convenor.
The Schools' Director and the Convenor of the E&T Committee also collaborate in awarding scholarships to Summer School.
