The RSCDS Celebrates £2,500 gift From The Patron's Fund

The RSCDS is celebrating after receiving a £2,500 gift from The Patron’s Fund, the charitable fund set up to acknowledge the work of the charitable organisations for which Her Majesty, The Queen acts as a Patron, on the occasion of her 90th birthday.

Around £750,000 is available to distribute between nearly 300 charities and other organisations in the UK and the Commonwealth. The Fund received generous donations from a range of supporters; including individual donors, businesses, schools, community groups and the proceeds from The Patron’s Lunch, the event on the Mall last June.

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society has been building a vibrant community of Scottish Country Dancers and Musicians worldwide since 1923. Through our 160 Branches and 310 Affiliated Groups we continue to teach thousands of people of all ages and abilities around the UK and elsewhere to dance and have fun, get fit and develop friendships. The gift from the Patron’s Fund will be used to purchase new technology to help bring our worldwide community together, making training and communication easier. We also want to expand our work in schools to help children in Scotland learn about an important part of their tradition.

Helen Russell, the Chairman of RSCDS, said:  ‘We are delighted to have The Queen as our Patron. This  most welcome money will help us to enable members, teachers, branch and affiliated group representatives and others to access cost effective meetings, events, training and to allow regular contact ‘face to face’ with them, so that our services can be tailored to the needs of our members, wherever they live and dance.

Sir Stuart Etherington, Chair of The Board of Trustees for The Patron’s Fund, said:

‘The Patron’s Fund is very pleased to be able to support the RSCDS with its valuable work. The RSCDS is among hundreds of organisations for which The Queen acts as a Patron, which between them make a difference to causes and communities in the UK and throughout the Commonwealth.’
