Dance Scotia

Together with The Royal Scottish Geographical Society, the RSCDS are commemorating the centenary of the death of Scottish explorer William Speirs Bruce.  RSCDS Chair Lorna Ogilvie explains:

"A former Board member of The Royal Scottish Geographical Society contacted me recently to ask if RSCDS would consider commemorating 100 years since the death of Scottish explorer William Speirs Bruce on 28 October 2021, by performing dances from the ‘Scotia Suite’. The dances, including The Piper and the Penguin, were written as part of the celebrations for the Centenary of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition (1902-4) led by Speirs Bruce on the research vessel SY Scotia, and produced through collaboration between RSGS and RSCDS.

I couldn’t resist this challenge as, coincidentally, I am on the Board of RSGS as well as  Chairman of RSCDS. Watch the video below – there are surprise appearances from dancers here in Scotland and also in Antarctica!"
