DST - Dancing in the Street

Selkirk Branch dancers

Nine Scottish country dancers from Selkirk in the Scottish Borders have appeared on a worldwide ‘Dancing in The Street’ video that aired on Holiday Alley web-TV Tuesday 30th November.  Margaret Pritchard from Roxburgh Selkirk and Peebles Branch tells us more…

‘Back in October I was contacted as Secretary of Roxburgh Selkirk and Peebles Branch by Kym Dopheide in Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada. She is one of the 'elves' organising the annual Holiday Alley Festival which had as its theme 'Dancing in the Street, Again!’  She explained that dance groups were being invited to make a video of themselves dancing in the streets and once received, a compilation video would be prepared and shared worldwide!

As we had not long resumed dancing after lockdown restrictions had eased, we thought this would be a fun thing to do and a great opportunity to raise our profile.

Knowing how enthusiastic the Selkirk ladies are we had every confidence they would rise to the challenge- and we were not disappointed!  They danced the 32bar reel ‘Deil amang the tailors’ in front of Mungo Park Court in Selkirk.

The dancing was filmed by Frank Brown, and we duly sent the video off; on 30th November the video was launched featuring our dancers. There have been articles about them in the local press so they are growing more famous by the minute!’

Dancers:

Maureen Buckley, Shirley Brown, Ros Roxburgh, Maureen Davidson, Freda Nicholson, Wendy Boustead, Margaret Pritchard, Olive Stillie and Mary Harkness.
