DST - Generous donation to RSCDS

RSCDS donation

A generous legacy donation from the estate of Agnes Dandridge has recently been received from an RSCDS member. Here they explain the reasons behind the donation.

'Agnes was my mother's lifelong friend. My mother was Jean Elizabeth Hubbard (Betty to all who knew her).  They grew up together in Grangemouth.  After completion of school, my mother went on to train as a physical education teacher in Dunfermline.  As part of her training she qualified as a Scottish Country Dance teacher, receiving her Dance teacher certificates in 1947 and 1948. This fact was unknown to me until after my father passed away and I found her qualifying certificates amongst their documents.

At this point my mother was already in long term care with dementia so I was unable to have a meaningful discussion about her experience.  Sadly she did not continue in Scottish country dancing but I was exposed to the basics as a child in the UK and rediscovered it 12 years ago in Canada where I now live.  I have been an avid dancer ever since. Once I realized my mother's connection to Scottish dancing, I was pleased to discover that she was delighted to watch videos of dancing on an iPad which helped me make a connection with her, despite her dementia.  I am pleased to make a donation to the Society, especially with all the hardships resulting from COVID 19.'

The RSCDS express heartfelt thanks for this generous donation will be used to support the training of Scottish country dance teachers across the world.
