Music Director

We are
seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Scottish Dance musician to lead and coordinate musical activities and advise on music-related matters, including copyright and licensing issues. Music is integral to the Society and the enjoyment of Dance Scottish.

Our current Music Director, Ian Muir will finish his term in November 2020 and we are keen to appoint a successor who can shadow Ian before that period. We are grateful for Ian’s hard work to direct the music activities of the Society.

The Music Director’s role is exciting and varied, with the chance to coordinate the Musicians’ Course at our annual Scottish country dancing Summer School, our largest event.

Ian Muir, our current Music Director describes his approach below to inspire musicians and dancers:

“My philosophy for these courses has always been to encourage musicians, to understand and appreciate the unique style of Scottish country dance music to ensure that the music delivered contains the necessary drive and lift to inspire the dancers. At Summer School the final goal is to play for the final dance in the Younger Hall in St Andrews and the course has always risen to the challenge to the delight of the dance floor. Encouraging young people to take up playing is one of my driving forces and I have always encouraged this wherever possible.”

Editor of Scottish Country Dancer

We are looking for a new Editor of our biannual magazine, the Scottish Country Dancer. This magazine is enjoyed by our members worldwide and is available in hard copy or digital format.

The issue in April 2020 will be the last issue produced by our current Editor, Jimmie Hill, and we are grateful for his commitment to producing many great issues. We are looking to appoint a new editor who can shadow Jimmie as he produces the April issue.

Editing the magazine is a brilliant opportunity to showcase the fun of Scottish country dancing worldwide and highlight the amazing efforts of our diverse membership that spread the joy of Scottish country dancing.
