Virtual Festival 2020!

Virtual Festival blog image 2020

The 2020 Virtual Festival is on, and we are inviting everyone to come and enjoy 'A Scottish Celebration'! Nine groups have faced the challenge of filming a dance video '2020 style'. The results are heart-warming and entertaining, funny and imaginative - thanks to everyone who participated in producing the videos, either in front of or behind the camera.

All groups were facing the two questions: "How do we dance while keeping the physical distance? And: how to meet where indoor activities are difficult?" The answers every group found are quite diverse. Some use larger sets, some fewer people, some wear masks, some gloves, some 'touch' via other equipment. A few of the videos are produced by remarkably tech-savvy people, which leads to intriguing results: expect ghostly appearances, light and shadow and mysterious beaming experiences. Speaking of beaming: some entries were filmed outside, and take us from the woods to the cityside.

Don't miss your chance to vote on your favourite item for the 'People's Choice' award. You have time to do so until Saturday, 17 October. Just write an email to

"Thank you to the Branches that entered our Virtual Festival. You all did wonderfully well at showing that SCD can be enjoyed in 2020. Watching your performances gave me a real lift. There is still time for members to vote for their favourite, although everyone who took part is a winner in my view. Just send an email by this Saturday 17 October to, subject line: ‘Virtual Festival 2020’ in order to vote and join our virtual AGM on 7 November to find out who takes the prize."
