Winter School 2022 - First-time visit

Winter School 2022 first time visit

First-time Winter School attendee Linda Watson tells us all about her experience in Pitlochry in February; we're glad you had a great time Linda!

'First of all we had a great welcome from the Winter School staff and immediately felt at ease. I also recognised a few friendly faces of dancers whom l had met elsewhere. Great care was taken to welcome dancers of all abilities both by the tutors and the other participants. All staff were approachable, friendly and helpful. The lessons were rigorously prepared and delivered with patience and good humour. The walk through of the evening dances was very helpful and gave confidence to the less experienced dancers and helped with memorising the formations and sequencing. It was quite interesting to dance in other venues in Pitlochry, although some folk found the floor surface in the leisure centre a bit hard on their feet.

The musicians were equally friendly and obviously very skilled at playing for RSCDS events. The soirées in the foyer were most enjoyable and gave us a chance to listen to the skill of the musicians at leisure.

The afternoon experiences were an added attraction with the Pitlochry walk, fiddle talk, gin tasting and step class all proving popular. There was never a dull moment!

Personally it was helpful to buy a new pair of shoes from Seniors and to browse the Carolina Charles clothing. The RSCDS shop also provided an opportunity to buy some CDs etc.

Our room at the Atholl Palace Hotel was superb. We had plenty of space, a comfortable bed and modern bathroom facilities. The meals were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the range of nutritious food for breakfast and dinner. The views from the dining room are unique and the setting of the hotel in the surrounding countryside plus their own grounds were a delight.  We were able to patronise the local shops and cafes at lunchtime.

We awoke to snowy conditions on our final morning but the staff had worked hard to adapt the morning programme to ensure no one had to walk into town.

The Ball at Blair Castle was truly memorable for the unique setting, wonderful music and companionship. We felt really privileged to be there.

An all round five star experience!'
