Guidance for using Zoom

If you haven't joined us for our online classes before, please read the advice below.

  • The teacher won’t be able to see all your questions and comments as they teach, but DSAH will be across the issues that arise, aiming to deal with all as possible
  • Learning remotely will be a different experience for everyone
  • Please be mindful at all times of your own safety and wellbeing as you take part in your home environment; manage moving furniture from your dancing area and think about your floor surface
  • The week of activities is planned to include a balance of activities to help manage with less available space and different learning conditions
  • Please do use ‘Chat’ as an opportunity to connect with each other
  • Clicking to All Panellists and Attendees will enable others to see your comments
  • If you find the ‘Chat’ area impinges on viewing the teacher, ‘Chat’ can be opened at the side of the screen. Or move to Full Screen move, click on Chat and drag the box with the bar at the top to a less distracting part of the screen. On some devices you can close the chat with the “x”
  • Please be aware ‘Chat’ comments will be recorded as text with the class, so you may want to register with just a first name when registering for the class if you have any privacy concerns
  • When using Zoom you will need to register your name and an email address, but that should take you straight into the session
  • Your camera and microphone will not be active
  • Hosting the class as a webinar and sharing the link through Dance Scottish At Home and email manages concerns around hosting events on Zoom. We are continuing to monitor this and doing everything we can to make this a secure environment for all
  • The downloadable links will be online recordings at a low resolution to enable us to share the class quickly and in a format everyone can download. It will mean some moments may not be quite in time but we hope that doesn’t stop your enjoyment and participation in the class

What's on?

This week, we are also inviting Young Dancers everywhere to join in and "get creative" with the RSCDS! You may have previously explored our new activity section on the website, but this week we are focused on adding new and exciting content in collaboration with the Summer Celebration event.

Monday

Have a go at a tricky memory game - this tests your knowledge on SCD formation terms and their matching diagrams, but also your memory! How fast can you complete the challenge?

(This is best played on a large screen, ideally a laptop or desktop computer)

PLAY THE GAME

Tuesday

Get your pens and pencils at the ready! We want you to create your own comic strip, with Rowan the Sheep as the main character. Come up with an interesting scenario or fantasy story and share your artwork with us.

Wednesday

For all the Potter fans out there, this puzzle represents the Scottish country dance Slytherin House. Hidden on the serpent are formations from the dance itself (watch the dance to help you out and see how many formations you can find).

You can also download a printable PDF of our Slytherin House word snake!

Thursday

Design your own sporran and colour in a kilt - try and colour match the RSCDS tartan or even create your own - anything goes! Make your sporran cruelty-free and imagine it's crafted from faux fur or vegan leather.

Friday

Puzzle away with these dance diagram jigsaws. Look at the complete diagram carefully, and use the colours and the background to help you. Have you solved the puzzle? Then watch the videos for each and see if you can 'read' the diagram and recognise the diagram formations it in the movements (The Waratah WeaverSummer on the BeachDouble Trouble Triangles).
