Become an RSCDS young dancer

The RSCDS has been in existence for nearly 100 years and we would like it to continue to develop its range of activities for at least another 100 years and to grow its membership!

To achieve this one of the important things we need to do, among others, is to attract and engage more young people. We need young people learning to dance, playing music, becoming teachers, contributing ideas, sitting on committees and be involved in planning activities. We need to ensure we evolve and develop to meet their aspirations and interests while ensuring we also cater for those who have been dancing and playing music for many years.

The RSCDS has a Branch structure, where the majority of our members join and there may be a Branch in your local area. There are a number of dancing groups that are Affiliated to the RSCDS and we encourage you to use the Branch/Group Finder to find an organisation near you as they may be able to help you to become a member.

Young dance groups

Are you a 'young' dance group? Do you have dance classes for school children? Or maybe you offer children's balls, young dancers workshops, or you support other dance activities that Youth Services could be interested to hear about?

We are starting a Young Dancers Database and collecting - well - data, first of all to know who is out there in the great wide world of Scottish dance, and then, to get you to network (if you want to) with likeminded individuals around the world.

Get back to us at ysc@rscds.org and let us know how you get young people dancing!

Youth Branch

The RSCDS Youth Branch was created to help and encourage young people across the world, with the aim of bringing young people together to help shape the future of the Society.

There are young dancers across the world and each RSCDS Branch assists and promotes the development of dance with various youth initiatives. The Youth Branch is here to help you meet other dancers who are passionate about Scottish Country Dancing and keep you up to date with youth events, news from the world of Scottish Country Dance, and discover local classes, youth groups and workshops.

What do our young dancers have to say?

With an international community of Young Dancers that is growing every day, there are always opportunities to learn how to dance and meet new friends.

Julia Walter - Tasmania, Australia

"I've been dancing since I was 3 when my mum started a children's class in my home town in Tasmania, Australia and I guess I just grew up with SCD and it's now an important part of my week!

I love the connection of a world wide community found all over the world. It's so great to be able to go almost anywhere and find a welcoming RSCDS or other local SCD group. As a youth member, I especially love connecting with other young dancers and making new friendships through SCD"

Helen Wyeth - Auckland, New Zealand

"My sister and I were pulled up to dance during a have-a-go session at the Waipu Games almost a decade ago. At the end the teacher told our mother that she had to get us to a class. We started the following March. We've been dancing ever since!"
