DST - Atlanta's Stone Mountain Highland Games

Atlanta Branch

RSCDS Atlanta got in touch to tell us about their participation in the Stone Mountain Highland Games -

The 50th anniversary of the Stone Mountain Highland Games took place just outside of Atlanta, Georgia between 14th - 16th October 2022 with Scottish country dancing events throughout the weekend.  The festivities kicked off with a Welcome dance on Friday night.  Dancers from across the southeast attended.  Live music was provided by Copious Notes (Mara Shea and Julie Gorka).

Dancing continued on the field Saturday.  First a demonstration of dancing was displayed on the main field where the dancers showcased the two dances written for the 50th anniversary of the Stone Mountain Highland Games.  This was followed by more dancing with audience participation at the dance platform.  It was beautiful weather and many people joined.

Saturday evening was the Tartan Ball – a formal event also featuring live music from Copious Notes.  The program had 16 dances including the two new dances to commemorate the Stone Mountain games.   The Clarsach was added to the program to honor Marilyn Blaschke, Atlanta Branch founder, who passed in July 2022.  Dancing continued on the field on Sunday with more participation with games attendees. Everyone who either participated on the platform or watched from the stands enjoyed their day at the games.
