DST - Sutton Coldfield celebrate 40th anniversary

RSCDS Sutton Coldfield

The Sutton Coldfield branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society welcomed the Chairman of the Society, Mr William Williamson and his wife Linda to their 40th Anniversary Dance on Saturday 10th December 22. Mr & Mrs Williamson, who travelled from Scotland for the event, presented the Sutton Coldfield Branch with a certificate to mark the occasion, and in return they presented William with a dance written by their teacher and choreographer, Gill Jennings.

The evening was a sell-out success with a great atmosphere, with accomplished players Chris and Julie Dewhurst providing the music.  It was particularly pleasing to welcome those dancers who have joined the branch since the pandemic. After a two course supper, attendees enjoyed a varied programme of dances, some of which were written by Barry Priddey (instigator of Sutton Coldfield becoming a branch of the RSCDS) and others by Gill Jennings. A programme item danced by more experienced members was Forty and Counting, a fitting reflection of the branch's special anniversary.

“It is so good to see that Scottish country dancing, which was enjoyed by the late Queen, continues to be a vibrant activity in Royal Sutton Coldfield, following it’s founding in the Town in 1982 when the group became a branch of the RSCDS,” said Frances Richardson, Chair of the Branch..
